Frequently asked questions

What is Palabra?
Palabra is a Chrome browser extension for language learners. It lets you translate selected words on most websites with a double-click, automatically saves them to your vocabulary, and helps you practice with AI-powered writing exercises — all without leaving the page.
How does Palabra work?
Double-click a word on a supported webpage to see its translation. Palabra saves the word along with its context — the sentence and the source page — to your personal vocabulary. When you're ready to practice, open the sidebar and complete writing exercises where you use your saved words in real sentences. AI reviews your writing and highlights corrections.
What languages does Palabra support?
Palabra supports 26 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Greek, Bulgarian, Turkish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Slovenian, Ukrainian, Armenian, and Belarusian. It can translate from any language into any of these.
How much does Palabra cost?
Palabra is free during pre-release. Without an account, Guest Preview gives you 25 word translations and 12 AI feedback messages each week, stored locally in your browser. A free account adds cloud sync and can activate the unlimited Pre-release Trial through real Palabra use.
Is there a Pre-release Trial?
Yes. Registered users can activate the Pre-release Trial the first time they translate or save a word while signed in. It is unlimited during pre-release, has no end date yet, and does not require a card.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Out of the box, Palabra works as Guest Preview, with 25 word translations and 12 AI feedback messages per week stored locally. Creating a free account adds cloud sync and Pre-release Trial eligibility.
What happens to my saved words if I sign up later?
Your saved words come with you. When you create an account, Palabra imports your local vocabulary into your account and keeps it synced across devices. If the import is still finishing or needs to retry, you will see an in-app banner; your local words remain available throughout.
What is sentence mining?
Sentence mining is a language learning method where you collect real sentences containing new words from native content, then review them with spaced repetition. Palabra automates the capture side: every word you save includes its original sentence and source page. Then AI exercises help you practice using those words in new sentences. No manual card creation needed.
Why does Palabra make me write sentences instead of showing flashcards?
Writing a sentence forces you to recall the word, choose the right form, and fit it into grammar — the same thing you do in real conversation. Research on the "generation effect" shows that producing information yourself creates stronger memories than passively reviewing it. That's why Palabra tests production, not recognition.
Does Palabra work on most websites?
Yes. Palabra works on most standard webpages — news sites, Wikipedia, blogs, social media, and forums. Double-click a word and the translation appears instantly. No need to copy text into a separate reader.
